The art of crafting potions or poisons for use in battle . that is alchemy.
You create an potion/poison by mixing 2 or 3 reagents in a solvent.
potions can have up to 3 effects in one concoction depending on the reagents.
Potions have a cooldown time of 45 seconds. so you can use only one potion every 45 seconds.
Poisons can be imbued on weapon’s and have a 20% chance of triggering. also the more effects a poison have ,the shorter it works. the effects dillutes than.
The solvents give the quality to the potion or poison. it
for potions you will need water to mix the reagents in.
These can be found at water springs near any kind of lake, river, stream or sea.
Water also can be found in small water bags.
For Poison on the other hand you will need Oils gathered from defeating different kind of creatures. for example trolls, giant snakes, banekin, giants, haj mota
to use a higher level water or oil you will need to unlock it with the passive skill:

In alchemy you will need at least 2 reagents to create potions or poison’s . labotory use will unlock the use of a third ingredient.
you got 3 kind of reagents:
plants: gathered from nodes all over the land.
Mushrooms: also gathered from different nodes.
animal parts: this is a special group of reagents gathered from insects and specific creatures.
each reagents has up to 4 traits to be discovered.

Alchemy has a passive skill line with the following abilities
Solvent proficiency: this will let you make use of higher level solvents
Keen eye: makes the nodes more visible from further distances.
medicinal use: lengthen the durations of the effect.
Chemistry: allows you to make more potions out of single mixture of reagents .
Laboratory use; unlocks the use of a third reagent
Snakesblood: weakens the negative effect in a potion.
